Building a website... This one!
Create my first website

I wanted to build a website to use to document my progress as I continue learning. Most likely this will be the first "completed" project on the site as I dont want to put older projects that I cannot be detailed enough about anymore. So here is the process I have been going through the last week to get this going! First I setup a Hostinger account to host this site. I did want to host it myself from my own servers just to prove that I had the knowledge to do it. However I decided that for now I would use them to host it until I can write my own code for the site rather than using templates from wordpress. Once the account was setup I claimed my domain name through them and created the site. At first I tried using templates to build the site. however after a few days of messing with it I could not decide on a style I really liked enough to commit to. Then I tried to build it myself from scratch using Elementor. That was working but the issue I ran into is that I was unsure if my personal style would come off as professional enough with the current toolset I have. I was stuck and could not decide what to do. Then my answer came when I was going through my Youtube feed browsing for new projects as I always do and my favorite channel posted a video about this topic! Luck would have it that he also included a template for a wordpress site that many Experts in the field approved of. So I gave it a shot!. Initially I was worried when I first saw the site because I did not have something to fill in every section and I couldnt just turn those sections off. It was built into the code of the template. So I had a choice. Do I go back to building a site from scratch with elementor and try to get the ideas behind the template. Or do I use the template and go into the code and figure out how to remove only the sections I could not fill in for now. Well reverse engineering the code sounded way more fun to me and I looked at it as a challenge to see how much I remember from my time at BYUI. It did not take me that long to do either! It also struck a cord in me to want to start learning more code as well but that is for another post. Now there was one thing that really lacked in my opinion from the template. That was the About me page. It was essentially only text on the page. I wanted something that matched the theme of the front page but would not be so simple that someone would skip past it. The solution, Create the page myself using elementor and model it after the front page! I am extremely excited to be finishing the first step on this site and I am looking forward to all of the projects and updates I can post here to document my journey. Future posts will be more detailed with more Links and as well as dates so that I can update the projects as I work on them and you can see how long it takes me. Thank you for taking the time to read my origin story and I hope you'll come back to keep tabs on me!
